Christmas Traditions

Christmas is less than a week away. We are all gearing up to celebrate. This means gifts, parties, and traditions. What makes Christmas special for you? What has to happen for you to feel like you have celebrated Christmas (or Christmastime)?

For me, Christmas includes:

  • Getting a fancy Starbucks drink and driving around to look at Christmas lights while listening to the John Berry and Harry Connick’s Christmas CDs. John Berry’s of “Oh Holy Night” still puts a lump in my throat, and Harry Connick’s Ave Maria is lights out the best.
  • Celebrating Christmas Eve. This is a long-running and hallowed tradition in Allison’s family that we now carry on at our house.

There are 2 other “lesser traditions” that don’t always get to happen:

  • Make “trash” (Chex mix) with my sister. Grammy would bring a giant popcorn can of it from East Texas when they would come to stay with us. After she was no longer able to do that we started doing it ourselves.
  • Take cookies to a local fire station.

Exchanging gifts is important, of course. But it’s not what makes Christmas for me. It’s the time to celebrate with family and friends leading up to that day that really makes it for me.

So what makes Christmas special for you? Please either post a comment, or if you are reading this on Facebook post your own note (and tag me), or just email it to me.
